Nustadia Operations & Management Division
In the early 2000s, municipalities across Canada began seeking alternatives to the traditional model of delivering recreation infrastructure. The conventional design-bid-build approach, combined with municipal ownership and operation, was increasingly viewed as inefficient and unsustainable in an era of constrained municipal resources. It became evident that recreation facility development and operations were not core functions of municipal government. Long-term economic, environmental, and social sustainability could be better achieved through private sector partnerships.
Recognizing this shift, Nustadia focused its growth on the development and operation of recreation facilities through a Community Partnership model.
With roots in a prominent architectural and engineering firm specializing in recreational infrastructure for over 30 years, Nustadia brings deep expertise in design and construction. This experience informs the company's ability to distinguish between facilities that are sustainable and efficient versus those that fall short—often due to the absence of an experienced operator during the planning stages. Nustadia frequently leads projects on behalf of municipal and institutional partners, pre-qualifying and contracting design-build teams while ensuring operational considerations remain central throughout the process.
Today, Nustadia is dedicated exclusively to the consulting, development, and operation of community and institutional recreation facilities across Canada. Its portfolio primarily includes multi-pad, multi-use ice arenas, indoor field houses, and outdoor playing fields.
Nustadia's operational responsibilities encompass facility maintenance, ice and field rentals, lease negotiation and administration for sports retail, food and beverage services, fitness centres, and other third-party business units. The company also manages event programming, in-house and third-party leagues, sponsorship, advertising, and more.
A key differentiator for Nustadia is its proprietary, in-house Facility Operations and Risk Management Manual, a best-practices guide unique to the industry. This comprehensive manual standardizes procedures across all sites, ensuring consistent, high-quality operations led by trained General Managers nationwide.
